The present time has been created by courageous leaders of the past.
People have searched for something not to exist yet, acquired something new, and created the future.
There must have been firm beliefs and noble ambitions in their minds to accomplish their purpose.

It was in 1950 soon after the postwar rehabilitation, in the time the burned grounds are yet to be seen, that Nagoya JC we belong was organized by Koichi Okuma, the first president of the chamber, and 23 young men under their guiding principles of “We shall never become precocious adults” and “To respect the process more than the outcome”, in order to achieve Japan’s reconstruction through economic independence and build the “bright affluent society”

The noble principles of establishment still live on in Nagoya JC today beyond its 66 years history. The founders barely made their own living at that time, however, they rose up for the society. What motivated them to do so? I think they had a sense of ownership in blazing a way to the future for themselves and had a grain of courage.

In present time, we have plenty of things and information, and our life has become very comfortable and convenient. In the near future, the city of Nagoya will be greatly changed by the redevelopment of the Nagoya Station area in accordance with the introduction of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen in 2027. The first Legoland in Japan will soon open, and many international events are going to be held in Nagoya. In addition, Nagoya plays a key role as the driving force behind the Japan's economy as the center of manufacturing industry such as automobiles, airplanes, machine tools, and fine ceramics.

However, our matured society is now filled with a strange feeling of satisfaction without a proper reason. On the contrary, many of us hesitate to face the changes and difficulties despite of the fact that there are many issues that we have to find solutions. I feel a great sense of crisis for the fact that our spirit is being undermined out of cowardice.

If today has been built by the courageous past leaders,
we, young generation, are to be responsible
for creating the future with courageous actions.

This year JCI Nagoya develops projects under the following two principles; “To promote member’s interest” and “To find real solutions for social issues”.

Firstly, a junior chamber is the place for cultivating your humanity. You can mature as a human being through friendly rivalry, sometimes clashing with others, but not through prearranged harmony. You are still young and immature as a human. You can share exciting and impressive moments with us by exploding your young power.

Secondly, we hear many good news in Nagoya including the redevelopment of Nagoya Station area, however, at the same time, there is a concern of a decline of other parts of Nagoya as a result of the overconcentration to Nagoya Station area. Without understanding of relations between the real economy and us, there is a possibility that small companies and stores that we run become bankrupt swallowed by the big tide of the macro economy. We gather our wisdom together and try hard to build an economically strong city in order to continue to be Nagoya as a wise survivor, without being tossed about by the upcoming big wave of economic changes.

In addition, the new story of the new epoch begins by creating new values of “people, town, and nation”, and that is the role that we, young generation, have to take at the great turning point of the epoch. With passion for Nagoya, we try hard to define Nagoya's significance of existence again, and also we try hard to contribute to Japan and the world by using our creativity that has cultivated for a long time.

Now we have more than 700 members in JCI Nagoya. We enjoy the dynamism woven by the various members, while united as a team sharing the sense of values. By making the most of our diversity and strength as a team, we take our steps forward boldly and positively to “make our society better place”.
